Nico Angleys brother, occasional cook, and amateur photographernicoangleys@gmail.com

Photo

This brother is a bit of a “natural philosopher” in the Victorian sense of the term. He’s known to wander around hidden behind a simple digital SLR looking for something to capture. When it comes to people, he’s been called a “creeper” – probably for good reason. So take a gander in this space for all his “non-people”, non-creeper shots.

For picts with people, I recommend you look at his facebook albums. (https://www.facebook.com/media/albums/?id=2256869)

Fall Colors in Michigan
Fall Colors in Michigan

Michigan in the Autumn is rather spectacular. This is a set of fall shots that tries to capture the breadth of colors and the warmth of light which I find unique to this season.

Butterflies
Butterflies

I love visiting aquariums. I’m not sure why. It doesn’t matter, I love ‘em! Taking pictures in aquariums is a different matter. I’m discovering that’s not an easy affair. Glass bends, refracts, distorts light in strange ways. Water does so in even stranger ways it seems. Lighting is often difficult to work with. All this [...]

Exotic Birds
Exotic Birds

These fluffy, feathery, fanciful, sometime flightless creatures are a wonder of wonders to this photographer. Such color, such shapes, such strange sounds! I am grateful for zoos, conservatories, and aquariums which have allowed me to glance with my own eyes a little sample of the vast world of ornithology.

Birds of Prey
Birds of Prey

This album is my attempt to collect my best pictures of birds that catch their food “on the fly” as it were. Some of these particular birds don’t do so because they’re in captivity, but they sure would if they weren’t behind bars. These are birds that tend to capture the imagination and wish half [...]

Birds Outside of North America
Birds Outside of North America

Birds are quite challenging to photograph. They are challenging to photograph well. They require a lot of wildlife observation skills in addition to some real technical photographic skill. Since I lack both fairly substantially, you will no doubt look on these with mercy. Rejoice with me at the very good fortune I had on a [...]

Alpine Ibex
Alpine Ibex

This photographer has wandered a bit in his native Alps and has collected a few good sightings of the various species of Ibex. Some of these I got within a few meters. Some (the more distant shots) are of the elusive and furtive “chamois” (rupicapra rupicapra) which I dream some day of seeing up close.

City Life
City Life

Various mammals (OK, they’re mainly rodents/vermin) that live close to where my camera resides.

Mammals in the Wild
Mammals in the Wild

This collection contains my feeble attempts to see mammals in the wild. Some day this album will have more variety, I hope!

Tidepools
Tidepools

Between low tide and high tide, there exists a fascinating yet fragile ecosystem which is well worth an afternoon of observation. Acadia National Park was the place I discovered this world. Thanks to Ranger Eleanor…

Birds of North America
Birds of North America

Birds that fly free where the wind will take them and when men won’t shoot them. Most of these just me drool at the idea of getting big fancy lenses and spending days just waiting for the perfect shot…

Snakes
Snakes

Snakes I’ve seen in zoos, aquariums, and other “safe” locations. Most are poisonous, deadly, or otherwise un-companionable…

Amphibians
Amphibians

This is my grab-bag category of reptiles that aren’t snakes. Herpatologists won’t be happy with me on this one, but there you go: it’s the prerogative of the natural philosopher to create his own categories!

Herping
Herping

These are shots taken as I’ve wandered outdoors looking for snakes, across this great continent… Herping is a modern vernacular word describing the act of looking for “herps” (the Greek word for snakes.) All of these were taken in situ, in the “wild”. A special thanks to my Herping Master, Brendan Murray esq., without whom [...]

Spiders
Spiders

Ah, the world of arachnids, a mysterious one, full of strange and mildly fearful creatures! I hope to someday see some “dangerous” spiders in the wild. Until then, I’ll just add to this collection. I would dedicate this album to all my friends who are arachnophobic, in the hopes of helping them cope – but [...]

Insects
Insects

In April 2011, this photographer purchased his first macro lens. It opened up a whole new world of wonders and marvels. This collection should give you a taste of that world. I think that I may very well have chosen a different field of study if I’d seen all this earlier in my life…

Alpine Landscapes

Big views from my various hikes near my home in the Alps. Paysages alpins de ma Savoie natale.
